position must be based in the Salt Lake CIty metro area and be
willing to commute 2-3 days a week when this role transitions to a

SLC! Reporting to the VP of Clinical Products, the AI Safety Lead
will be responsible for the design, delivery, and
operationalisation of a state-of-the-art, mental health clinical
safety function and platform for Spring Health’s various products.
This is a full time, hybrid position that is based out of San
Francisco, CA. What you’ll be doing: Define and continuously update
our AI Safety Plan inclusive of regulatory frameworks such as the
EU AI Act, U.S. Executive Order 14110, NIST AI RMF 1.0, ISO/IEC
42001 requirements, and others Establish and enforce fairness,
bias, and explainability standard Build monitoring pipelines for
drift, harmful content, disparate impact, and other vectors of
inequity Architect safe-by-design ML systems (LLM guardrails,
retrieval-augmented generation, ranking pipelines) Lead design
reviews, threat-modeling, and red-team exercises Define and own key
risk indicators (KRIs) and SLOs for safety Partner with Clinical,
Legal, Privacy, Security, and Product to translate regulation into
engineering requirements Represent Spring Health in external
standards bodies and audits What success looks like in this role:
All high-risk AI services/products documented and
compliance-mapped; coverage by automated safety tests; Safety SLOs
integrated into CI/CD Successful third-party audit and/or public
disclosures demonstrating conformance to relevant AI standards
and/or higher internal standards LLM guardrails rec-sys filters
shipped to prod, Automated fairness tests run in CI/CD Safety SLOs
defined and met by the entire engineering team Spring Health
recognized in at least one industry forum for published case study
on mental-health AI safety Spring Health recognized in at least one
academic forum on mental-health AI safety What we expect from you:
10 yrs building and shipping production ML/AI systems; 3 yrs in a
formal AI/ML safety, security, or compliance roleDeep knowledge of
Generative AI (LLMs, diffusion), recommender and ranking
algorithms, and their failure modes Hands-on expertise with:
Responsible-AI toolkits (e.g., Fairlearn, OpenAI Eval frameworks,
LlamaGuard) Robustness & red-team testing, adversarial ML,
privacy-enhancing techniques Distributed training / serving stacks
(PyTorch, JAX, Ray, K8s, Triton) Demonstrated experience providing
technical leadership to teams of 5–15 engineers with experience in
delivery execution, mentoring, and hiring support Excellent written
& verbal communication; able to brief executives and regulators
Demonstrated success translating EU AI Act or comparable regulation
into technical controls and audit artifacts Prior experience with
safety evaluations for multimodal or RLHF systems (preferred)
Master’s or PhD in CS, ML, Statistics, or a related discipline
(preferred) Contributor to relevant open-source safety or fairness
projects (preferred) Experience participating in NIST, IEEE, or BSI
AI standards working group The target base salary range for this
position is $200,800 - $245,000, and is part of a competitive total
rewards package including stock options and benefits. Individual
pay may vary from the target range and is determined by a number of
factors including experience, location, internal pay equity, and
other relevant business considerations. We review all employee pay
and compensation programs annually using Radford Global
Compensation Database at minimum to ensure competitive and fair
